Stage 3 begins the process of separating the wheat from the chaff. The teams left the lakes behind and headed north into the White Mountains. Sondre Tveit broke away once the terrain got hilly, and stayed away the entire way to get a sensational solo win. Once it became clear that Tveit would not be caught, the GC contenders left the peloton in dribs and drabs and battled up the climb to Littleton. The best teams looked to be saving their effort for tomorrow's king stage to Mt. Jefferson. Local rider Wesley Meadows finished 5th on the day, and closed his gap on the lead of the tour to 35 seconds. Much will depend on the next two days...
